  1. When you’re heading towards a cliff, the only thing that matters is not going over the edge. Slowing down a bit before you reach the cliff anyway, or going off it at a slightly different angle, doesn’t help. Sometimes “better than nothing” is just as useless as “nothing.”

  2. Slowing down gives you just a little bit more time to find the brake. (If you’re looking for it, anyway.)
